The Nature Center in Chattahoochee Hills
Cochran Mill Nature Center (1987-2017)
The nature center in Chattahoochee Hills incorporated in September 1987 as Cochran Mill Nature Center. It's headquarters was originally located in a trailer at Cochran Mill Park, before building a lodge and pond on property it leased adjoining the Park at 6300 Cochran Mill Rd (in unincorporated Fulton County Georgia, now in the City of Chattahoochee Hills, Georgia). In 2016, three founding members (Ray Hannah, Dieter Franz, and Louie Deaton) shared their reflections on Cochran Mill Nature Center and their vision to bring environmental education to the Southern Crescent of Atlanta. However, a tragic event closed the Nature Center before that story was shared. Bear Creek Nature Center (2020-Present) In 2020, Bear Creek Nature Center opened as a new non-profit in the same location to carry on the legacy of environmental education. Throughout its history, founding member Ray Hannah was instrumental in building – and rebuilding – the Nature Center. With his passing in December 2023, the Nature Center honors his memory and the legacy of Cochran Mill Nature Center with the sharing of the 2016 podcast: Reflections of Cochran Mill Nature Center As told by: Ray Hannah, Dieter Franz, and Louie Deaton Interview by: Terri Clark, Director of Cochran Mill Nature Center Podcast by: Clark Hill Services, Inc.
